Copying, printing, and confusion...

There seems to be much confusion about the new staggered copying pricing and codes and signage... so here are a few reminders and some things I didn't know:

-the copiers now do double-sided copying (they didn't before) -- it's referred to as "sidedness" on the signage
-the copiers on 3rd and 4th (only) now do color copying (they didn't before) and it's 25 cents (for everyone)
-the only time a card is now needed is for printing for those who don't have or want to use a CruzID gold account (still need a $1 bill)
-all copying requires logging in to the machines; students use CruzID Gold, all others put cash into the copier kiosk and obtain a login
-the PIN that the signage refers to is the last 4 digits of a student/staff/faculty university ID #
-CruzID Gold account copying is 8 cents per page
-non-CruzID Gold copying (aka guest) is 15 cents per page
-students who don't want to charge their account for whatever reason can use the guest kiosk for copying but they will pay 7 cents more per copy than the student rate of 8 cents

And we do have another flatbed scanner in McHenry on the 2nd floor near the IT/Ref Desk. It's in a computer cubicle near the color printer.
It's not as good for images, but fine for text.

Hope this helps!

Best,
Laura

ADA station changes

From Omar:

Here is an update you on some security changes we are making to the
ADA stations at both library sites.

I have changed the password to the ADA stations and are no longer
issuing the password out to the service desks.

The login information for the ADA stations is obtained through the
DRC. Library ITS is still providing computer support for this station.

If a DRC student wants to gain access to the station, Angela Holleman
is the DRC Technology Coordinator and can be reached at
adhollem@ucsc.edu or at 9-3225.

If a community patron requests access to the ADA station, please direct
them to email help@ucsc.edu with library in the subject line to get
access.

Note: The station is not for scanning and is only for adaptive
technology use.

Google scanning in the McH Ref collection

Maric reports that the last bit of scanning of material from the McHenry Reference Collection will take place over the next few weeks. Here are the dates and call number ranges.

We're going to begin pulling reference materials this week. The first batch will be sent out next Wednesday 12/02/09, to be returned on 12/16 and reshelved before the break. The second batch will be sent on 12/09/09 and return on 01/13/2010, to be reshelved by 01/15. We hope to finish our pull from the reference collection between these two shipments, so the call numbers that will be gone will range from HA to Z (excepting HT168 to ML156.5, which has already been pulled).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

thanks, Frank
